Portrait Photography Course – Chelmsford, Essex

Beginners Portrait Photography Course Images   I thought I would share a few images from our recent portrait photography course which we ran from one of the executive boxes at the Essex County Ground (cricket ground) in Chelmsford. We had a great team of photographers shooting and Elizabeth a wonderful model resulting in some great images.   We like to run this course from a fairly empty shell rather than a fully set-up studio as this provides our delegates with a great insight into what can be achieved from a simple room. Here are a couple of the images.     On the day we introduced the photographers to setting up studio lights, positing, alternative lighting styles, directing models, using soft boxes and post production…

You may have already blown the new year resolutions but there is still time to make the start to the new year a good one.   You may have received a new camera during the holiday period or dusted down the old one either way you can make 2016 the year that you pushed your photography forward. It may be that you are completely new to photography and want to take better pictures of your family or you may be determined to finally pursue that new career – either way…

Kent portrait photography course

Kent Portrait Photography Course – Maidstone

Kent Portrait Photography Course – Maidstone   On Saturday some of our delegates had the fortune to spend the day with the brilliant Martin Higgs and learn how to take stunning studio based images on our Portrait photography course run in maidstone, Kent. On the day the delegates worked with professional model Kate using a range of lighting setups. Some really great work by martin and the guys.   Working with a professional model like Kate is a great way of being able to focus upon the lighting whilst she works on the posing.  Ultimately you need to work on both however when starting out it is comforting to work with professional models who can provide an additional insight.     All of the delegates…

Lifestyle portrait shoot – portrait photography course – Essex

Lifestyle portrait photography shoot in Chelmsford, Essex We had the please of working with one of our favourite models today – Cody.  As always Cody was super professional, working really well with our budding new photographers helping them to develop a great portfolio and master new skills.  Starting to take great portraits can actually be rather daunting when you first set out so we always try to pick our models carefully to give new photographers a great day.  Here are a few shots taken of Cody today.     When starting out in photography it is essential that you work on developing a professional portfolio, one that you can show to your clients and demonstrates your skill and style of work.  I always recommend to…

The Power & Value of Professional Qualifications for Photographers

By Nick Wood As a photographer I have never actually been asked by a potential client if I have any photographic qualifications and yet one of the most frequent questions potential delegates ask is “do I get a qualification or a certificate? Although my training company Unshaken Photography Training can actually issue nationally recognised qualifications I have until the beginning of this year actually encouraged students from following this route as I saw little value whilst incurring additional cost. This has all changed and in fact our students are now encouraged to achieve professional qualifications through the professional bodies primarily the SWPP (Society of Wedding & Portrait Photographers) Why the change in stance? Photography has always attracted people towards it as a career on the…

Learning with John Denton – John Denton Training

Learning with John Denton Being a photographer is an absolute joy and I frequently joke that when I go to work I have to try hard to to smile too much for fear of my wife getting annoyed with my smugness – but it is true and being a photographer is a joy.  One of the many pleasures is meeting other photographers and this week I have had a real ambition come true by working with one of my favourite photographers John Denton. John is a Fellow with the SWPP and runs training courses on behalf of the SWPP and through his own training company John Denton Training www.johndentontraining.com. I have had the opportunity to undertake four days training on a 1:1 basis with John…

How do I use my camera? Help!

January and February are the times when I get more blank faces staring at me than any other times of the year.  Our courses are jam packed with delegates fully equipped with shiny new gadgets and a couple of headaches. Getting that new piece of kit can be very exciting but also a little daunting so our course bulge with eager minds and willing hearts.  I enjoy this time of year enormously as we are helping so many people on their wonderful journey of discovery – Photography, a trip that goes on and on.   For some of our delegates photography is about catching and recording these precious life moments, it may be a family gathering, babies first steps or a once in a lifetime…
