We recently ran one of our popular portrait photography training courses at a small studio in Chelmsford, Essex with a great bunch of photographers. This workshop is the second stage of of beginners series and is always popular.
On the day we were fortunate to work with Zoe who is a local professional model who always delivers great energy and enthusiasm during shoots. For many people a training course isn’t always something that they relish and so we always try to ensure that our classes are fun, somewhat challenging but always extremely rewarding for our delegates. We intentionally run with small class sizes which means that everyone who attends gets plenty of hands on experience.
Throughout the course we ensure that we focus upon three core elements of photography – Technical skills, creative development and commercial awareness.
We started the day by looking at some basic lighting setups using just a single light and two lights all shot against a plain white background. These lighting plans are applicable for those looking to develop skills for their own enjoyment or alternatively looking to make a career out of photography.
In the afternoon we went on to look at posing of subjects, alternative lighting setups and using different backgrounds to creative alternative moods and effects. Zoe brought with her a series of different outfits and a selection of interesting props which further added to the day.
Our aim during the course is to ensure that delegates leave confident in the new found abilities, are able to conduct their own portrait session and have started to build their own portrait portfolio (possibly to show potential clients)
Late afternoon was spent looking at the commercial side of portrait photography, including marketing yourself, developing your own photography style, products to sell and pricing.
The course was concluded by looking at post production of images via Photoshop and Lightroom. It was great to see that all delegates produced some great images and thoroughly enjoyed the day, we look forward to seeing more of the work over the coming weeks and months.

We recently ran a wedding photography course in Chelmsford, Essex at the wonderful Ingatestone Hall. We had a splendid day with a great group of photographers each one out to improve their photography skills. The day was designed to help individuals develop their wedding portfolio’s as well as their technical and creative skills.
All of the delegates produced some wonderfully images on the day and continued to develop their own unique styles. Becoming a good wedding photographer takes a great deal of time, experience and technical ability whilst you will also require a good portfolio. Wedding portfolio builder days are used by many professionals and amateurs to develop their technical ability, practise creative setups and to enhance their portfolio. Without a portfolio is is always going to be very difficult to win work and so our wedding photography courses prove very popular.
I strongly belive that you need to continuously push yourself, whatever your level of expertise and continuous training is one way of doing just that. Our photography courses are run with small groups in great locations and fabulous models to ensure that everyone learns and really benefits from the day.
I was delighted on the day that the modelling agency that we often work with Promomodels came equipped with the most wonderful selection of wedding dresses from House of Couture and so our professional bride and groom models looked wonderful.

We recently ran one of our popular wedding photography portfolio days at Ingatestone Hall just outside of Chelmsford, Essex. Portfolio days are an excellent means of taking your photography skills to the next level by practising in a safe environment where your creative skills can be allowed to run free.
During the course of the day we had seven bride and groom models available to be photographed anywhere within the house or gardens. The images taken by the delegates are all able to be used within their portfolios or on the websites to promote their business and to help them attract new business.
Often during the course of a wedding, time with the bride and groom is severly restricted if you don’t want to dominate proceedings. As a result practising the shots you would like to achive during a wedding portfolio day is a great means of preparing for the big day.
Professional wedding photographers have used portfolio days to improve their portfolios for many years although few are willing to admit it. Portfolio days are in-fact a wonderful tool to use and demonstrate to clients a professional approach to your work by demonstrating how you continue to push yourself and your skills to higher levels.
